A stunningly detailed Día de los Muertos girl, equally dainty and edgy.
I had been doing Day of the Dead portraits and figures more or less the same way for many years, so my recent experimentation is a means of exploring new and creative ways to interpret Día de los Muertos imagery (it’s not in my nature to do the exact same thing over and over for very long).
I enjoy the cluttered, garish amount of detail the image involved, as well as really letting loose with the colors. I’m moving (and thinking) beyond the literal, and attempting to explore more purely artistic imagery. Whether all the stuff on her is body paint, tattoos, or her actual skin—I don’t really know (or care!).
