This was from a little while ago, but the Dallas Morning News used my portrait of Willie Nelson in a spread for his 80th birthday, alongside dozens of other artistic renditions. Cool stuff!
A full page illustration for Culture Magazine, this was another portrait of a popular tokin’ figure (see what I did there?). Like Snoop Dogg, Willie has very characteristic features and is a fairly easy likeness to get right. I felt like doing something quiet and dignified, hence the pose and choice of black and white.
I added a new section under “Work” entitled “Artistic Audities.” I explain on the page its reason for existing, but basically, it’s an ongoing project of mine to illustrate songs that are particularly evocative to me. I’ve got a couple examples up now, and more on the way in the near future.
I once again illustrated Chico News & Review‘s annual “Best Of” issue, this time a superhero-themed deal. You can see the process here.
My work was featured on an August cover of the Inland Empire Weekly for their “Back 2 School” issue.
This was a full page illustration for the October issue of Culture magazine, a medical marijuana publication in Southern California. No story or anything, just a full-page portrait of Snoop Dogg. I illustrated Paranoia magazine editor Joan d’Arc’s short story “TikiBunker: Armageddon Inhabitions of Soundscape Nostalgie” as well as designed the website. Drink and drive slow.
