Another elegantly-rendered second look at one of Nicholas Ivins’ most enduring creations!
Pelicans are a common sight in my hometown of San Diego, in particular the brown pelican, one of only two species of pelican in the world that completely dive underneath the water to feed. Although somewhat awkward-looking, they do retain a certain offbeat grace about them, and feature some wonderful details and textures. All things I look for in a good animal subject! In studying photos of them, I appreciated for the first time how colorful and almost prehistoric they look.
