Stunning and sassy, this Día de los Muertos Aztec girl takes no prisoners!
Many of the modern traditions of Day of the Dead descend from death rituals of pre-Columbian civilizations such as the Aztecs, so it seemed fitting to depict a Día figure in that vein (I am also an alumni of SDSU, so go Aztecs!). The body art depicts Aztec subjects and motifs, and the dress is similarly topical. Their exploits as warriors are well-known, as is their tradition of human sacrifice (the scope of which being somewhat factually contested), so I included the skull of a bird at the center of the blossom to signify that. Likewise, her expression and wild hair conveys an enthusiastic fierceness of unknown degree!
